With summer well and truly over, it’s time to welcome a new season. A favourite for many, fall means pumpkin carving, crisp leaves, marshmallows over the bonfire and the countdown to the end of another year.

Textures and materials

As the weather gets colder, warm blankets and comfy cushions are a must. As a focal point in any living room, changing the colour scheme of your soft furnishings can immediately alter the entire feel of the space.

Materials such as yarn and wool make for cosy additions for the fall season and will contrast the texture of your sofa, whether that be leather, suede or cotton. Add even more dimension with a rustic wooden side table, coffee table or TV unit. Dark wood complements neutrals as well as bolder colours, so is a great option.

The most obvious fall colours tend to be burnt oranges, browns and muted reds. Keep these as the staple colours in your home but be sure to soften these tones with neutrals. Colours such as beige or grey tone down bolder colours and create a calming feel in a room.

Arts and crafts are a great activity for all ages, whether you’re looking for something fun and creative to do with your kids or sprucing up your home on a budget. Small, decorative touches can change the whole atmosphere of your house, just in time for fall.

Carve pumpkins to place outside your house, or decorate with paint and leaves to display as a centrepiece for your dining room table. If you decide to go all out and create a fall-inspired porch or entryway, an autumn wreath made of leaves, reeds and berries will complete the look and make a sophisticated addition to the pumpkins.
