We built a double pitched mansard loft conversion in a conservation area | Virtual Tour
How did we create this loft conversion for our client?
Our client on Chisenhale Road wanted a loft conversion that looked natural on their property, with an added bedroom and shower room to give them extra space. In this 12-week project, the team at Abbey created a double pitched mansard loft conversion with a stunning interior.
The project required planning permission since the property was in a conservation area. The exterior of the loft was clad in natural Welsh slates, and timber sash windows were installed to meet the regulations and blend with the Victorian terraced style.
Key Features
The team created a stylish bedroom and shower room. The glazing was a major feature, with front sash windows and Velux windows for lighting the stairwell.
Challenges
Planning permission was required as the site was located in a conservation area. For compliancy, timber sash windows were installed, and natural Welsh slates were used to clad the loft’s exterior.

Results
The rear enjoyed the benefit of full height glazing, filling the entire rear elevation. For the exterior, the loft was clad in natural Welsh slates and finished with timber sash windows. We achieved a good sized bedroom, with a bathroom independently accessible from the landing, in a typical Victorian terraced home with an inverted London roof.
